The 50's were so magical. Engineers and designers were given free reign to come up with new, futuristic stuff. The Economy was going like a jet. Money was being made hand over fist. Such times we may never see again.

My dad went with me to go get the Ranchero, and on the way back, he said that something had been bothering him for some short while and he'd finally figured it out. We'd already remarked on the the taillight's design meant to evoke a jet exhaust, but my dad said what had caught his eye was the front end of the side relief. Something familiar, extremely so.
See that forward pitched line, with the slight following swell and with a slight "scoop" to the body? That didn't just materialize.
No, the front end of the side contour is designed to evoke something "jet" as well: a first-gen fighter jet intake.

No wonder you were such a cheerleader for me planning a Ranchero project, I must have missed that the Falcon was your first.
In honesty, I'm thinking I may get another Falcon at some point in better shape, and then I'll have a spare trans, engine, and some other parts for it from the Rover V-8/T-10 swap in the Ranchero. A neat one would be an Aussie XM Coupe, since a US dash would presumably swap in easily. It's just a simple, beautiful small car that represents the 50s/60s crossover better than almost any other.
